Intruder attacks and attempted abduction on children – Algarve

Imccann7507_wideweb__470x4330was today reading a post on a Forum that I post on called Stop The Myths.  The post written by Jayelles simply stated the incidents in the Algarve where children had either been attacked or an attempt to molest them had occurred.  Jayelles wrote the following:

APRIL 14, 2004: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from Praia da Luz (PDA). s.e.x assault on 10-year-old girl.

JUNE 9 2005: Sao Rafael, near Sesmarias, 50 miles from PDA. s.e.x assault on nine-year-old girl.

JUNE 2 2006: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from PDA. s.e.x assault on seven-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister in separate rooms.

OCTOBER 29 2006: Albufeira, 45 miles from PDA. s.e.x assault on eight-year-old girl

CHRISTMAS DAY, 2006: Silves, 35 miles from PDA. Attempted abduction of three-year-old girl.

MAY 28 2007: Albufeira. 45 miles from PDA. Intruder disturbed at the bottom of nine-year-old girl’s bed.

Well I have done a quick search of the files and I can’t find anything in them that relates to these incidents… However, I did find an article that was written for the News of the World in which these incidents were mentioned..

Former Northern Ireland and Cheshire cop Edgar, 52, Edgar and his hard-core squad of four hand-picked investigators -drafted in by the McCanns last November – are also looking at records of six sex attacks against youngsters in the Algarve leading up to Madeleine’s kidnap. Again, these are poorly documented by the Portuguese.

“Most of attacks were overnight, in apartments and at least five involved British children,” he said. “I am looking for links to the Madeleine abduction – geographical links, links with the descriptions.”

The attacks are:

APRIL 14, 2004: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from Praia da Luz (PDA). Sex assault on 10-year-old girl.

JUNE 9 2005: Sao Rafael, near Sesmarias, 50 miles from PDA. Sex assault on nine-year-old girl.

JUNE 2 2006: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from PDA. Sex assault on seven-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister in separate rooms.

OCTOBER 29 2006: Albufeira, 45 miles from PDA. Sex assault on eight-year-old girl

CHRISTMAS DAY, 2006: Silves, 35 miles from PDA. Attempted abduction of three-year-old girl.

MAY 28 2007: Albufeira. 45 miles from PDA. Intruder disturbed at the bottom of nine-year-old girl’s bed.

Edgar told us: “Some of the attacks were in the files and some were in other documents that were not terribly obvious. Again I am subject to the frailties of the Portuguese authorities and have to work with what I have been given. I have tried to build bridges with them but have had no response. But we have access to other files that have not been released to the public and the media.”.

If you have read Kate McCann’s book you would have also read that she was told about this information by Bill Henderson, she wrote:

I recall Bill Henderson telling me there had been several recent cases of men getting into bed with children, but no known abductions. I’m not sure why this didn’t ring a million alarm bells or sicken me to the core. As it was, it remained locked away in the dungeons of my mind for many months. At the time my brain simply couldn’t connect such cases with Madeleine’s disappearance. These were abuse victims, and as awful as such crimes were, Madeleine’s situation was much worse. Our child had been stolen. We didn’t know where or how she was.

She then goes on to write:

One of the most concerning and upsetting pieces of information to emerge quite early was the record of sexual crimes against children in the Algarve. This discovery made me feel physically sick. I read of five cases of British children on holiday being sexually abused in their beds while their parents slept in another room. In three further incidents, children encountered an intruder in their bedrooms, who was presumably disturbed before he had the chance to carry out an assault. I guessed these were the reports that Bill Henderson, the British consul at the time of Madeleine’s abduction, had told me about. These incidents had occurred within an hour’s drive of Praia da Luz over the three years prior to Madeleine’s disappearance. The PJ had never mentioned any of them to us. In fact, I gathered from the files, some of them hadn’t even been recorded by the authorities at the time they were reported (evidently, they were not considered to be actual crimes). So they might never have come to light if the parents of these children hadn’t been brave enough to come forward to the British police after Madeleine was taken and relive their nightmares. They did so in the belief that there could be a link between what had happened to their children and what had happened to her.

Criminals, when starting out on their lifetime of criminal activity, do tend to escalate the nature of their crimes as time passes by..  They get more cocky because a) they haven’t been caught and b) to satisfy their desire to get the adrenalin rushing, which happens when they commit some heinous crimes.  As a criminal starts on his crimewave, with each crime he commits, he gets more experienced.

Unfortunately, the thrill of committing that crime.. soon wears off and this is when they up their game, they have to get that thrill back… that excitement, that adrenalin rush… And this is when they go on to escalate their criminal activity and venture into more grotesque crimes.  The paedophile who has molested children, and who is standing in the dock waiting to be sentenced in all probability started out by just viewing pictures of children being abused by adults… and it is then that his crimes started to evolve and the sordid fascination it gave him turned him into the person who was now committing these horrific offences…   The burglar who ransacks people’s homes probably started out a petty thief who probably started out shoplifting.

But in criminal cases the modus operandi doesn’t change.. throughout their crimes there is a pattern.. and it is finding that pattern that can solve many other cases.  Police only need one piece of information to join the dots and then they have their man.

But what is more scary in this case, is the lack of investigation taken by the Portuguese Police about these incidents, even though they were reported, the Police didn’t act because they did not think it was such a crime.

Jayelles also found this piece of information about one of those such incidents, highlighted above:

AN ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION Christmas Day 2006

Christmas Day 2006 – Three-year-old Carolina Santos, blonde, blue eyed, was found being led away from the family cafe near the town of Silves by a man last year. Her father, Abel Santos, 40, said: ”We were busy working in the kitchen and came out to find out she wasn’ t there.

I searched around for her and saw her some way away on the road with a man I took to be Moroccan. We started towards them shouting and Carolina stopped and turned towards us. He disappeared around the bend. His wife, Lina, 28, added: “It was very strange because Carolina is very shy and doesn’t go with strangers. When I asked her what happened she said he told her that he had another little girl for her to play with”.

NO POLICE ACTION OR FOLLOW UP. It was decide no crime had been committed !

Sadly, the impressions that I am left with are very worrying. A lack of enthusiasm in finding missing children.

The Metro reports this on the incident:

Three-year-old Carolina Santos, who is blonde with blue eyes, was found being led away from the family cafe near the town of Silves by a man.

Madeleine, four, was snatched from her bed in the holiday resort of Praia da Luz on the Algarve in Portugal on May 3 and is still missing.Carolina’s parents described today how they had left her playing at the front of the roadside cafe in Fonte De Louseiron, a village around half an hour from Praia Da Luz on Christmas Day last year.

Abel Santos, 40, said: “We were busy working in the kitchen and came out to find out she wasn’t there. I searched around for her and saw her some way away on the road with a man I took to be Moroccan. “We started towards them shouting and Carolina stopped and turned towards us. He disappeared around the bend.”

His wife Lina, 28, added: “It was very strange because Carolina is usually very shy and doesn’t go with strangers. “When I asked her what happened she said he told her that he had another little girl for her to play with. There was no other girl. I was so scared.

“If we hadn’t come out at that moment I don’t know what would have happened.”

They reported the incident to police at the time but say they were told they could not make a formal complaint as no crime had been committed. A spokesman for the criminal Policia Judiciaria (PJ) said that attempted abduction was a crime in Portugal and believed that the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) – a separate force – would have filed a report.

Three days ago the couple contacted police again after a Moroccan man threatened to take their daughter during a row at the cafe.

Police said yesterday that they were investigating these incidents, but were not linking them to Madeleine’s disappearance, because there were too many dissimilarities.

So this child looked like Madeleine.. and she was encouraged by a man to leave the safety of her home… this was an attempted abduction as far as I am concerned and should have been investigated thoroughly.  But what worries me more.. is how many other attempted abductions or attempted child molestations have happened and been reported to the authorities and nothing has been done with regards to a proper investigation.

As I said before this information is NOT in the files… which proves another thing… the files that the McCanns, and possibly Robert Murat have, are the complete files… and not the set that was streamlined for the media.

If this was your child missing, wouldn’t you want a review of all information?  Wouldn’t you want your home country’s top Police Force, to review the case?  Wouldn’t you want to do whatever is in your power to keep the search for your child going?  Wouldn’t you want to take every opportunity given to you to keep her profile in the media high, in hope that she will be found?

I know I would.
