I know it is Judicial Police sources and newspapers sources, but according to one article the Expresso, it states the following about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, in that the case is being re-opened, the full article states:
Madeleine: Lawyer warmly welcomes revival of the case investigation
Friday, March 9, 2012
Lisbon, 09 sea (AP) – The lawyer for the parents of Madeleine McCann, the British girl who disappeared in the Algarve in 2007, considered today welcomes the decision of the Portuguese and British police to reactivate the investigation.
“Until we find out what happened to Madeleine it will not be closed. I see now this recrudescence of the investigations as a very positive sign on the expectation that they will discover what really happened to Madeleine and that is really what matters to discover “said Rogerio Alves, told Lusa.
According to a report released today by the Journal News, Scotland Yard has a team of 37 people to investigate the matter and in Portugal in February, the Criminal Investigation Department assigned the case to the Chamber of Criminal Investigation and Prevention of Porto.
Other papers are denying this is case, and says it is being reviewed.
However Goncalo Amaral states this in the Jornal de Notícias:
This diligence was not carried out because – it should be recalled – the McCann couple and six of their friends refused to participate. “The British authorities’ interest values all of the work that was developed by the Portuguese police and questions the reason for a hasty and abrupt archiving. The material truth still has to be established”, Gonçalo Amaral, the first coordinator of the investigation, now retired, states to JN.
However, I suspect, the parents of missing Madeleine McCann will be relieved and thankful that finally the investigation into their daughter’s disappearance may be re-opened and they may finally have answers and hopefully a happy ending to this sad and tragic story.
Meanwhile we all hope and pray, for the McCann family, that is investigation leads to the Police finding Madeleine alive and returning to her, to her parents so that they may start to be rebuild their lives together again.
As for what Goncalo Amaral has to say, well I will not even go there, because I have certain questions for that man. His comments mean diddley squat and have no importance whatsoever in this case. However I would like Scotland Yard to find out one thing, why was a man who was made an arguido, the day after Madeleine’s disappearance, with regards to the alleged torture of a parent of another missing child, put in charge of another missing child case?
Did the authorities not think that his mind might have been too preoccupied with keeping his own ass out of jail, to fully concentrate on finding out what happened to Madeleine?
The most encouraging news is that, the team who is destined to review/re-open this case from the Portuguese side will be officers who had nothing to do with the original investigation. Jornal de Notícias states:
This time, the PJ’s national directory chose to nominate a team that had nothing to do with the case to work on it. The choice fell on the Oporto PJ’s Regional Section for Criminal Investigation and Prevention, headed by chief coordinator Helena Monteiro.
This can only be encouraging news and maybe pave the way for the parents of Madeleine to put their faith and trust back into a Police Force that so let them and their daughter down originally.
Paulo Rebelo, who took over from Goncalo Amaral (who was removed from the case) had a mountain to climb. He was trying to find a needle in a haystack and trying his hardest to find out what happened to Madeleine but unfortunately, the original investigative team left a lot to be desired, with their catalogue of errors, in not securing the crime scene, refusing to do a reconstruction, bring in specialised dogs and with re-letting the apartment before specialised dogs were brought in.
By the time that Paulo Rebelo wanted to do a reconstruction, the friends of the McCann family had seen first-hand the treatment of Kate and Gerry and decided to get lawyered up before deciding not to participate in a reconstruction in May 2008.
It is easy for us to sit here and say, ‘If they cared they would have returned.’, but if you were witness to the treatment of one of friends as described in Kate’s book (reference Matthew Oldfield interview where the Police wanted him to say he passed Madeleine through the window to another person) and then witness the defamatory and malicious headlines emanating from Portugal (which we now know to be made up stories by the leaks from the Portuguese Press to the Portuguese newspapers) and see your friends made arguidos, it is hardly surprising they sought legal redress and feared for their liberty. I would have felt the same and so would you.
As I said, let us hope and pray that Madeleine McCann is found and reunited with her family and that they may be given the privacy to rebuild their lives together, without press intrusion and without some people on blogs and forums harping back to 2007 false headlines and vilifying the parents at every given opportunity.
May Madeleine be found alive and may this nightmare finally end for Madeleine and her family.
It seems that things are becoming a little clearer now, a team consisting of SY Officer and PJ Offciers from Oporto, are reviewing all the evidence in the case and the McCann family hope this will lead to the case being re-opened in due course. The Belfast Telegraph states:
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry obviously welcome the work being done by the PJ in Oporto alongside that of the Met investigative team. They clearly hope that it will lead to the case being reopened in due course.
“There is good co-operation between the Met and the PJ, and Kate and Gerry remain grateful for the time and resources that have been put into the search for Madeleine. They will not be discussing any details whilst both the Met investigative review and the PJ work is continuing, but clearly it is a positive development.”
