Talk and twist and turn..

Back in August this year I wrote this post (The Purpose of a Reconstruction), whereby it shows the truth of what is written in Amaral’s book and some valid reasons as to why the friends of the McCanns were weary and sought legal advice before declining to do the reconstruction in May 2008.

Back in 2007, when a reconstruction would have been most beneficial in finding Madeleine McCann, the PJ decided against doing one.

Who Decided Against Reconstruction?

  • The PJ

Reasons?

  • The number of tourists in Area
  • Closing the Airspace
  • Journalists and Media being there

Translations PT – UK – AnnaEsse

Kate and Gerry McCann write on their Find Madeleine site the following:

The proposed reconstruction: The suggestion of a reconstruction of our movements and other key witnesses at the crime scene and/or surrounding area in the early days following Madeleine’s abduction was declined by the PJ as ‘not usual’ for Portugal. When the PJ finally requested a reconstruction to take place in 2008, Gerry and I were still arguidos and as such would have attended for a reconstruction. Some key witnesses (including some of our friends)declined to attend the planned reconstruction as they were not convinced of the aims and usefulness of it. In particular, as the reconstruction was not to be shown to the media (and hence the general public), they did not feel it would help to find Madeleine. Had the intention been to show it to the general public, it may have ‘jogged’ memories and encouraged people to come forward with information. It should be added that other key witnesses were not invited to attend.

So how dare he tell the Algarve Journal 123  this:

“The case has to be re-opened, and I have faith that it will be,” he said. “It will either be when this current “procurador” leaves, or when the current chief of police leaves. It’s not something I am pushing for – even if I could – it’s just something I feel certain will happen. And when it does, the first, most essential thing to be done will be a reconstruction of that very first night – the night Madeleine disappeared. Because that’s what happened: she literally disappeared! The reconstruction will have to involve all the parties: the McCanns and their friends. You see, there are so many inconsistencies in these people’s statements that a reconstruction will very quickly highlight where they have not told the truth”.

He was supposed to have been Co-ordinator of the case, he should have done his job and made sure that a reconstruction carried out in those early days.  And why wasn’t the media used?  They could have played a vital role in what happened. They could have broadcast the entire reconstruction with the hope that it might jog someone’s memory and they might remember something that could have found Madeleine.

You are the one that let Madeleine down, Goncalo Amaral, you failed to push for things that needed to be done in order to find that child, so stop twisting and turning events.

On reading that article, one thing I am clear of now, is that you are blaming the McCanns for your problems. Your problems started on the 4th May 2007 not because Madeleine had disappeared the day before but because on that very day you were made an arguido in the case of suspected torture, with regards to another missing child case. You were subsequently charged, convicted and sentenced and your appeal was rejected and your sentence remained.

You were and still are convicted of those crimes.  The McCanns played no part in that, and any fool with some common sense would realise that a Police Officer convicted of Perjury, Falsifying Documents would NOT be able to remain a Police Officer and would face the possibility of being fired.

I am beginning to wonder if you knew that and decided that it might be best to retire (better than being fired) and write  books to supplement your income.  Only the McCanns were NOT going to sit back and see you make profit from their daughter’s disappearance and they were NOT going to sit back and see you tell the world their daughter is dead, when in fact there is no solid evidence to prove that.

Lately, the more I am reading about you, Goncalo Amaral, the more I am beginning to see a side of a person that I don’t like.  You may have smartened your act up but you are still a wolf in sheep’s clothing, in my humble opinion. And I do believe our press, the British ones, summed you up when they called you a disgraced ex-copper.

And what consultancy do you plan on creating in the future?  It can’t be in the role of  a Private Investigator as they are not allowed in Portugal.  Please don’t tell me, it is going to be with regards to missing children, because two children have disappeared, on your watch, and in both cases the children have NEVER been found.  Or are you going to be the new Pat Brown of the Algarve and become a self-taught Criminal Profiler?

EDITED TO ADD

One thought has just come to me in the bath as I am getting ready to venture into the crowd of Christmas shoppers and buy those last minute things, and it is this.  If Rebelo was prepared to do a reconstruction in May 2008 and wasn’t worried about tourists, media and air space, what was it that the previous investigators were frightened of the media witnessing?  And why did they need to close down airspace?  What could be so damning that a team of investigators would not want it caught on camera?

  1. You’re spot on about that, Amaral’s excuses for not doing a reconstruction apparently didn’t count for Rebelo.
But let’s be honest, the only reason Rebelo proposed that reconstruction is to see where Gerry/Wilkins were when Tanner passed them. And to see if it’s possible they didn’t see/hear her walking past them.
And to see if he could check Kate’s story about the door and the window, but how could anybody check that if the weather, the wind, wasn’t exactly as it was that evening at that particular moment?
The people dining in the restaurant, the OC workers, the nannies etc. were they invited? I don’t think so.
It had nothing to do with finding Madeleine.

“The reconstruction will have to involve all the parties: the McCanns and
their friends. You see, there are so many inconsistencies in these
people’s statements that a reconstruction will very quickly highlight
where they have not told the truth”.”

What’s the use of doing a reconstruction now, after all those years?
He’s still suggesting the McCanns and/or their friends lied about what’s happened that evening.
He’d better make sure Morais is going to raise more money for his fund, because he’ll need it.

    • Yes, I’d agree.

Why didn’t GA’s team simply ask in order  to iron out alleged inconsistencies instead of jumping to conclusions?
Wouldn’t that have been a first step?
